Accountability for Responsible Students

On college and university campuses, “Safety Planning” is a practice often utilized with survivors, those impacted by sexual misconduct. Research has suggested that Safety Planning for survivors is one of the most widely recommended activities for victims of sexual assault (Logan & Walker, 2018). Historically, Safety Planning has also been a tool used with adults who have been convicted of a sexual offense crime and are re-entering their communities, as well as for adolescents and children with problematic sexual behaviors who are living with their families or engaging in a reunification process with their families. This session is designed to introduce campus staff to a tool to explore a similar Safety Planning process for responsible students, student who have/or concerned about engaging in sexual misconduct. Safety Planning is the process of developing a structured plan to identify specific boundaries, strategies and supports to reduce risk of causing harm. Participants in this session will learn about the resources, research and knowledge needed to implement a plan; and, most of all, assess whether this is a process that makes sense for a particular student, situation, and campus.

Rights & Resources Crafting the Written Notifications of Right and Options

The Clery Act requires that a comprehensive written explanation of rights and options be provided immediately to victims of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking (DVSAS), regardless of whether the event took place on or off campus. When a student or employee discloses an experience of DVSAS, the institution’s initial response is a pivotal starting point in connecting survivors to systems of support. This webinar will guide attendees through the requirements of the written notification with a focus on creating a resource that builds trust and reduces re-victimization. Attendees will leave with practical steps for creating and implementing an efficient written notification process that is both compliant and ensures survivors receive the clear information they need to make informed decisions. By attending this webinar grantees will be able to 1.Identify the required elements of the written notification of rights and options 2.Outline campus and community resources that cover the full spectrum of supportive options available 3.Design a resource that is clear, and accessible to ensure the written notification empowers the survivors
